Keep the close moving. Keep the owner in the loop

Bring missing records, open questions, and the next month-end decision into one conversation with your client.

Month-end handoff
What do you need from me to finish this month?
Missing receipt
Ask the owner what the purchase was for.
Unmatched deposit
Compare the invoice and bank entry.
Unpaid bill
Confirm whether payment happened elsewhere.

An unanswered question should not disappear in an email thread.

Keep the original transaction, the question, and the owner’s answer together. A prepared close packet helps people see what is ready and what still needs attention.

Finish the monthly close

Start with these inputs.

  1. Bank and card statements for the same period
  2. Receipts for uncategorized transactions
  3. Open invoices and bills to review

Help with the preparation. Keep the decisions clear.

The accounting system remains the source of the books. Reconciliation, classifications, close approval, and any required accounting or tax judgment stay with the responsible professional.

Who decides what to share?

The owner chooses their goal and what private information to share. Agree on the business, purpose, records, people, and access before beginning. An introduction or existing relationship is not blanket permission.

Does a draft mean the work is done?

No. Preparation, professional review, owner approval, and completed action are separate. A draft does not authorize spending, filing, publishing, or contacting someone. Confirm completion in the system where the action occurs.

How does this fit with the rest of SMB?

Use the advisor hub for work with an invited owner. Practice-wide organization and permissions are a separate question; sharing a method never grants access to every client’s information.
