Business valuation calculatorPrefer to do the math yourself? Add up what the business made for you last year, then see what a few years of that comes to.
Does the business pay you a salary?

If you just take money out of the business (draws), it’s already in your profit.

The bottom line of last year’s profit and loss. It can be below zero.

Your salary or wages for the year. Just one owner.

Like your health insurance, retirement or a car.

On business loans and credit cards.

It’s on your tax return. Leave it blank if you’re not sure.

Costs that won’t come back, like a move or a lawsuit.

How many years of that would a buyer pay?

That number is called the multiple. We start at 2.5 to 3.5 years to show the math. It isn’t a benchmark for your business, so use sales of businesses like yours if you know them.

Planning range

Enter last year’s profit to see a range.

What the business made for you × years = planning range

The years are your guesses, not a market benchmark. Asking prices don’t show what buyers paid, and debt, cash, inventory and deal terms can change the result.

A few good questions.

Get clear on what a valuation can—and can’t—tell you.

Is this a certified appraisal?

No. A planning estimate is not a certified appraisal, a buyer’s offer, or a guaranteed sale price. For a formal legal, tax, or lending purpose, confirm the required standard with the appropriate professional.

Can a calculator tell me what my business is worth?

A calculator can show how inputs affect a result. It cannot establish the right method, validate your records, or choose relevant market evidence on its own. Treat a simple earnings-multiple result as a starting point, not the whole valuation.

What if I don’t know all the numbers?

Start with the information you have, identify what is missing, and check any assumptions before relying on the result. Your bookkeeper or accountant can help reconcile the financial records.

Does revenue tell me the value?

Not by itself. Two businesses with the same revenue can have different earnings, risks, assets, and growth prospects. The quality and sustainability of earnings matter alongside the method and market context.

Do I need to be ready to sell?

No. Understanding value can help you plan growth, prepare for a future transition, or decide which questions to ask next. A buyer should also review the underlying evidence rather than treating an asking price as a valuation.
